Guru Geethaya (ගුරු ගීතය), meaning "The Teacher's Song," is the
acclaimed Sinhala translation of the world-famous novel "The First
Teacher" (Duishen) written by Kyrgyz-Soviet author Chingiz Aitmatov
(1928–2008). Translated directly from Russian into Sinhala by
Dedigama V. Rodrigo, this timeless masterpiece has captivated
millions of Sri Lankan readers across generations.

Set in a small village in Kyrgyzstan during the early days of the
Russian Revolution, the story follows Duishen — a passionate young
former soldier who dedicates his life to educating village children
at a time when schooling was considered impossible and unnecessary.
